Handwriting help please

Although I can read most of this, I would be grateful for a second (third, fourth etc ) opinion as there are the odd words that I am finding difficult to decipher.



The marriage took place in Scoonie, Leven, Scotland in 1719.

My take on this:

The said day David Smart and Margaret Mathie both in this
parish gave up their names for proclamation in order to marriage
having given in a shilling sterling to the poor (Robert Wilkie and
Alexander Landels becoming caution for their pledges) and after
due proclamation wer[e] married Dec[emb]er 4 1719.

Having acquired some skills in this area, it's something I'm happy to help out with, though there are still some documents that are beyond me. It actually suits me pretty well - if I don't feel up to getting deeply involved in a lengthy research query, I can do a few minutes deciphering, and it's job done.

Having once worked for four GP's, I have often thought that maybe that gave me a head-start in reading old documents

I used to work with old documents every day. I miss the smell of those old, dusty papers, which were works of art in themselves.

A lot of the time (even when virtually illegible) you have a good idea of what legal docs are meant to say, which does help a little.
