Happy new year from Canada

I am also connecting to this forum after receiving the latest newsletter from Parish Chatter. I may have already met a few of you on another forum where I received great help; the name Daft Bat rings a bell ...bats in the belfry?!;)
I've gained some experience in the last few years and made significant progress on my research, but key brick walls remain. I hope I will choose the right areas when making my enquiries, and I hope I may be able to offer some help to others.

Hey Gwyneth! Welcome. What better to be doing than genealogy in weather like this! Lots of great helpers and yes, many of us were on the "other" forum ;)

Hi Gwyneth.

Welcome to Top Dog.

I suspect that for many of us no matter how much experience we have there will be a brick wall somewhere.

Hopefully we will be able to demolish some of yours.

My biggest challenge is with common names, oft-occurring but without other info to help identify the 'right' individual eg. Ellen Sullivan. It's also hard to follow women whose maiden names disappear after marriage (or are unknown to begin with). People who moved around a lot from country to country also become an enigma; where did they die? Is there some way to share my public tree so members can see what I've already got on an individual and I won't need to set out all the details in each query?

Is that tree on Ancestry? if so we don't allow direct links at is is a commercial site. See here.

However, you can post a broken link if you wish. e.g.

http://www. genealogy-specialists.com/threads/important-please-read.422/

Having said that, only members of Ancestry can view the trees themselves and not all our members subscribe.

Hi Gwyneth - yep, the Daft Bat is here and we are all ready to pitch in and help. :D

Hi Gwyneth and a warm welcome to Top Dog C|:-)
No doubt you'll recognise some 'old' faces - glad that you have joined us.

Here's my broken link to the Wilks Cohn family tree:

I do hope I've done this correctly. Thanks for the welcomes from everyone.

I'm not sure where to post a request about a specific lookup. I have an English ancestor who went to Canada, lived in my city and had a daughter south of the border, but I can't find a record of death. She was married twice so I imagine the record would be under her last married name, which happens to be very common (Walker). Pls let me know which is the proper forum to ask for help on this.

Hi Gwyneth, I have sent you a private message. You should see a red flag above 'Inbox' on the main bar next to your name. :)
