    Hello,

I’ve been listing all the newspaper articles my ancestors have been in, but I can’t find one article in particular.

It was from the 1880s, concerning a farm bailiff named William Goddard in Kent or Essex (he moved around a fair bit). He was alleged to have poisoned something, but I couldn’t understand the language being used. He was acquitted.

Could anyone find for me that particular article, and try and decode what is was about?

    Sorry for the vagueness,

    Adam

I am on my ipad at the moment and so cannot copy the article for you, but it was in the Southend Standard of 3rd March 1882.

Your chap was a farm bailiff, living in Canewdon, a village just north of Rochford, Essex, and was accused of feeding a neighbour's dog with poisoned "bullock paunch" - stomach.

On FMP if you put in William Goddard in the "Who' section and poison in the 'What else?' section then limit the search by 1880-1889, the top entry is for your man. 57 entries come up and some of the others may refer to him as well.

That’s great Daft Bat! I’ll note that down.

Flook, thanks for that. I’ll try it again now.
