The Fearless One. Rest in Peace.
Alice Gilson daughter of Thome baptised July ?

The entry is on the second page and the fifth entry down after the heading "baptisms 1579".

I'm okay with everything up to and including "July", it just the Latin date I can't read sufficiently.

Ancestry and Family Search show two baptisms for Alice Gilson at Ashdon Essex.
Alice Gilson baptised 7 July 1579 and Alicia Gilson baptised 27 July 1579, both show the father as being Thomas.

Regards.

I have absolutely no idea but Mr Google enticed me to search around and I came up with 'vicesimo octo' (28th)
As I said I have no idea but in for a penny in for a pound. It could go either way, right or wrong.

Second look and there seems to be an 'x' in there. So vicesimo sexto, 26th.

Agree that there is sexto = 6th, it was what was in front of sexto that had me flummoxed, I thought it was two words, nono primo which would make it 9th, 1st and 6th which made no sense at all.

Now that you interpret it as "vicesimo sexto" I can see that and it makes sense now, I was sure it was neither 7th or 27th, so the 26th it is.

Just rechecked and they have it 26th not 27th, I must have written it down incorrectly, oh dear! the ravages of ageing, not that I would have trusted either Ancestry or F S.

Btw I can't see the name Alicia, I see her first name as Alice.

Thanks for the help Sue.

It was just a stab in the dark. I hope it is right. I have no Latin education at all. Oh I tell porkies. We had six months of it in first year at high school of which my attention went to looking out the window....boring.

Spot on Sue, I think it is 26th July too. I must admit I wish I had concentrated much more on my Latin lessons at school - did it for 2 years but did not like it and gave it up before GCE's. Now if I had known I would become very interested in Family History .......
