Henry HENSON may be found in the 1841 census with his wife Elizabeth and 4 children living at Broadbridge Heath, Sullington, Thakeham, Sussex (Piece 1096, book 2, folio 13, page 3)

His occupation is that of M.S. – Male Servant. This ties in with his occupation on his son William’s marriage certificate (Coachman) as the others on the page are mainly Ag Labs.

Move forward to 1851 and Elizabeth has remarried (27th February 1848) to a Thomas BURSTOW and the family are living in East Street, Horsham, Sussex. (Piece 1648, folio 267, page 32)

What I cannot find is the death of Henry. :sceptical:

There is a death of a Henry HENSON in the Worthing district, June quarter 1851. This chap is aged 48, giving him a birth year of 1803, which is a bit far from the 1796 suggested in 1841. If the age in 1841 was rounded down to the nearest 5 years to 45, that would give him a birth year of between 1792 and 1796. Therefore, all things considered, I don’t think this is the Henry that I am looking for.

If anyone is able to find Henry’s death, I would be grateful. :)

How could Elizabeth remarry in 1848 if Henry died in 1851?
Unless he was missing for 7 years.......

I also cannot find a 'Henson' of any forename in Warnham via SFHG. Perhaps he only lived there for a time before marriage. re checking marriage c.d.

There is a burial for Henry Henson in 1851 on FamilySearch - buried 2 July 1851 aged 46 - abode Coate. I don't think this is your Henry as he is in the 1841 and 1851 census with wife Harriet.

Just off the top of my newly awake head, did anyone find / confirm the death of 'Harriet' his 1st wife? maybe he had beetled off back to her allowing Elizabeth to marry under laws of deceased / desertion? Hmmm. A bit early for fantasy?

I have discovered a burial for a Henry HENSON aged 54 on 13th May 1845, so born about 1791, which would fit (ish) except for the fact that his residence was Elcott House, Kintbury, Berkshire.

Elcott House would be fine if his job was that of Coachman - the house was bought in 1844 by Lady Shelley (mother of Percy Bysshe Shelley) and so servants would have been needed.

However, Kintbury is about 80 miles from Horsham. If it is Henry, would the family have moved there with him? Would Elizabeth and the children stayed in Horsham? Am I barking up the wrong tree entirely? :headbang:

I need to visit Archives and cannot! :headbang::headbang::headbang:

    OMG!

I have just had a look at Broadbridge Heath, where the family were in 1841, on Google Maps. the primary school is named.... Shelley Primary School!

It was renamed this in 1964.

Maybe there is a connection after all!

Percy Bysshe Shelley was born in Broadbridge Heath!

And in 1841, the Shelley family were living just a mile away from the HENSONs. :D

Perhaps she did go with Henry but had to return to her home town, once widowed, and perhaps needed parish relief for a time.
