He was the son of William and Rebecca (nee Northover)

People have him marrying Jane Cheney/Chainey in nearby Swyre in 1870; and in 1881 and 1891 a Henry and Jane can be found in Burton Bradstock, he is born c1853 Puncknowle (and daughter Sarah Rebecca born 1888 does have mmn of Chainey)

Except the marriage register gives his father as John,

My Henry is at home unmarried in 1871 (though I have found newly married sons enumerated with parents, and with wife before :sceptical:)

Except who is the Henry married to Jane?

The only Henry and Jane pair that I found in 1871, has Henry born c1847 in Puncknowle, which fits the birth of Henry Moor in Jun 1846, except his baptism names his father as George :headbang:

NB: FreeBMD has two Henry More births in Dec 1852 in Bridport, with slightly different references, page either 384 or 386. GRO only has one, with page 384. I believe there is only the one, though I am prepared to be wrong

And if my Henry isn't the one married to Jane, where is he?

In 1861 RG09/1366/100/21 - the entry above the Moore's (the previous schedule) is a lodger by the name of Emma Chainey.

Ok, good, looks like not-my-Henry married Jane Cheney, despite the apparent age in 1881 and 1891 matching -- thanks @MollyMay

Yes, @Londoner I saw it, and now I'm more than ever convinced there is only one Henry born 1852 in Puncknowle, I will claim it :D

Ok, I take it all back, well some of it.

I just stumbled on banns in London, for Henry Moore and Jane Chayney in 1873

And a corresponding marriage in Poplar to Jane Chainey (his father is William on this one!)

So there are two marriages, with people of the same name, and the 1881 and 1891 censuses probably are my Henry :)

And what's the betting that the other two fit in my tree as well

I've just been going through the GRO indexes for children born to a Moore with mother's name Cheney or similar - and yes, there is a family in Bridport and a family in London......both producing children at a regular rate between 1872 and 1889  Do you want me to list them?

This, that I found earlier, might just be the 'right' Jane

And this looks like the 'other' Jane Cheney in 1861 RG09/1366/96/14 as daughter in law (step daughter)
Ann Cheney widow married Samuel Swaffield in 1860
and 1851 HO107/1861/71/6 - confirming her father as Charles - blacksmith

I just had to find out what happened to the Henry and Jane that married in 1870 - it seems they too went to London - Wandsworth
    1881 RG11/647/72/4

I will leave you to it now - my curiosity has been satified:D

There must be another Moore/Cheney pairing in Bridport

    Henry & Jane 1870 had 9 children,mostly in London
Henry & Jane 1873 had 6 children mostly in Bridport
    (according to 1911 censuses)

I have 21 birth registrations: trying to find another 2 births for the 1873 couple, I assume Charles D1873 Poplar is theirs, which is the other?

I bet the third couple are in the tree already, wish me luck
