Henry was a Captain in the Ceylon Rifle Regiment in 1844. A friend of mine has a silhouette that was created at that time and is trying to find a bit out about the chap.

I have found that Henry was a 2nd Lieutenant in Kandy in 1841 and also that he was a Captain in Colombo in 1851. However, I have also found this from the Harts Army List of 1851 - Henry is towards the bottom.

From this, do I take it that Henry had been in the Ceylon Rifles for 11 years and actually started as a 2nd Lieutenant or would he have worked his way up?

    Thank you. :)

Hi Jan According to the list of Explanations, the letter p before a date denotes the Commission was obtained by purchase, so, I would suppose that he was not a Ranker.
