Why might a household be closed on the 1939 Register? :headbang:

The lady I am wanting to check was born 1891, so 'should' be open.

I couldn't see anything on the FAQ's as to why - but there is a facility to email and ask - sorry that is all I can suggest.

I don't really know how they've worked some of the entries out - I've found some that are closed which should be open, and quite a lot that, according to the 'rules' should be closed, are open

Yes, I know, Ann - including my mum's, which she was none too happy about. It had been closed up to that point.

Dad's entry is still closed - he died over thirty years ago.

I expect it is just another blip.

It's the first time I have found a whole household 'closed'. I'm not a hundred per cent this person is the one I am actually looking for - if I am still no further forward in a couple of weeks I shall have to query it.

If the family emigrated and died outside England & Wales then their household will remain closed... my Dad died here in South Africa and his brother living in the UK is still alive so both boys are closed but the parents, my grandparents, are open. Just one reason why the whole household is closed.

Ooh. Thank you, Hilda. ;) That hadn't occured to me.

It's a possibility that's what happened here. The person I am looking for lodged for a time with an aunt after his father remarried and left town in 1910. At least one of the cousins within that household relocated to South Africa - thank you for jogging my memory, too.
