I've bitten the bullet and started on my Irish great grandfather William CLARKE ... and have quickly got stuck :headbang:

He was born at CARROWREAGH (Mayo) in 1866 to Anthony CLARKE & Elizabeth (Betty) GLACKEN. He had a sister, ELLEN, who died in New York (Will proven in 1960) - and in that Will she lists some siblings. But I cannot find their births.

CLARKE & GLACKEN married in Nov 1852 (Diocese of ACHONRY, Parish of KILGARVAN). I've found that (thanks to one of you - was it Glyn? - who put the website address on here). And I've found births for WILLIAM (1866) & ANTHONY (1864).

I've read through the KILGARVAN list completely - but don't know the names of the other parishes in Achonry (the 2016 website lists 29 parishes, but as Kilgarvan is not there, I assume there have been changes).

Please could someone point me in the right direction, so that I don't have to read every page of every Parish in Ireland

And if anyone has seen them, these are the names I'm looking for (children of CLARKE & GLACKEN):
JOHN; MARY; OWEN; ELLEN; JAMES; MARTIN; MICHAEL
    (There may be more ...)

    Thanks
    Jane

Thanks Sis. I tried that one, but it lists the parishes as they are NOW. Kilgarvan doesn't appear, so I assume they've changed since the 1860's.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm looking for something that has been lost. I asked the Irish Civil Records site for Clark(e) births (in Ballina) 1852-1882. There don't appear to be any in the 1850's or early 1860's.

    :(

You might possibly find records, both Civil and Church, free to view and download at www.irishgenealogy.ie

    Fingers crossed for you.
