Nice result. Ask him if he has a PayPal account for donations. It's got to be cheaper than all those GRO fees.
Update: the lovely Father Geelan has sent me lots of information ... and he ignored my enquiry re a PayPal account. So now I feel REALLY guilty And I found people in the LDS church who told me to come back Saturday (today) Which I did. Talk about the blind leading the blind ... but I've placed an order for a film (even though it's digitised - no-one knows how to access it) so I'll be interested to see what turns up! (For £7.50 ) But, Oh My Goodness, what a Shambles I do not wish to insult anyone here with links to LDS, but today's experience has shown me why people get their ancestry so WRONG. Another couple were looking for information on the wife's (Polish) family. The LDS "sister" just logged on to Ancestry, found a Tree with Mum's name on, and showed them her long lost (and didn't know about) aunts & uncles. Now Come On!! Don't we all know not to take the info in Ancestry Trees as Gospel? ('scuse the pun). Apparently not. Jane
OK. How about another 'off the wall' suggestion from me. An alternative way to demonstrate your thanks would be, for each of the persons for whom Father Geelan has provided details, reply with a sort of 'thumbnail sketch' of what happened to them. Where they moved to, how many children they had, what became of them (and their children), good or bad. The sort of things that enable him to say, "These people came from my Parish, and look what they achieved!" At least, that way, you'd be giving something back which would encourage him to continue to assist other researchers. Good result BTW.
I think you'll find you need a Microfiche reader. Don't they have one? WHAT! And you didn't 'recruit' them to the forum? Jan - someone needs re-training. Doesn't surprise me. The LDS is essentially a Religious or Church based/orientated organization. The staff are there to assist 'customers'. They may have little knowledge or interest in Researchers or 'researching'.
Yes, they have a Microfiche reader. And a Microfiche film is winging its way to Cornwall for me. But the Family Search site implies that digitised films are available to download - we just couldn't work out how! Jane
Wow, your very lucky father geenan helped you. I'm in n.ireland, and was charged £5 per marriage certificate I wanted from the churches I personally contacted.
Just an update for people looking for Irish Catholic records. I know this has been posted elsewhere. You can now view records at http:registers.nli.ie/. All searches are free, you need to type in the Parish you want and search through the registers. You can put in the year and month you want to search for and download the page/s you want.
Glyn, not all information has been put into this from registers. As some of the information I have from church records personally from the church themselves, are not on this site. They are adding information every day and will take them a while to complete. So for those researching your ancestors, regually check. And if you don't find what your led to believe, check again at a later date. X
