Jane Celia I Howard married Alfred M. Smythson in Luton, Beds. 3rd q. 1918. It looks like the marriage didn't last as an Alfred M Smythson in Islington, Midd. 2nd q. 1921 married Ellen F. Smith.

Could there have been an annulment rather than a divorce?

Jane Celia is my 2nd cousin.

In 2nd q. 1922, in Luton Beds. Ernest G, Bedford married JENNY C. I. Howard and in 1939 Electoral Register she can be found with Ernest George @ 33 Highbury Road, Luton [registered as Jenny Celia Irene Bedford].

I have a death in Luton, 1st q, 1987 for a JANE C. I. Bedford - birth date 3 Apr. 1896. I think this is her but am just wondering.

Just noticed on the marriage registration to Smythson she used the given name JENNY

Weren’t Jane, Jenny, Janet interchangeably used?

I know Jenny and Jane were, one of my ancestors was at one time recorded as Jane and another time Jenny.

Have you checked to see if any other births registered in that very distinctive name?
Certainly looks to be one and the same person.

Sight of the 1922 marriage certificate should be fairly conclusive.

In the 1939 Register taken at the outbreak of WW2, she is shown as Jane C I BEDFORD, with a date of birth of 2nd April 1896. :)

I have just been interrogating the family of a Jane Ruth known later as Jennie. So they are out there. ;)

Thank you all. This pretty much confirms it - one and the same. And was her address 33 Highbury Road, Luton?
