Isaac also went by the name Isaac Lowe. This is unsubstantiated, but he used this alias on more than one occasion. His mother Ann(e) Broadhurst had been an unmarried house keeper for a William Lowe, so maybe his mother and her master......... He also went by the name Isaac Bordens. Isaac, his wife Ellen and their 2 year old son Isaac are living under this name in Mill Street, Abergavennyin 1851. His profession is entered as Hawker Of Earthenware.

    Anyway:-

    Isaac was born c1830

Isaac had been tried for stealing a picture in 1854. At his trial on 29th June 1854 he was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment with hard labour.

He was in trouble again in 1859 for trying to sell a stolen silver cup and was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment with hard labour.

He was in court again in 1863 for stealing hay and oats. He was committed for trial on 22nd January 1863, and was kept in custody at Knighton until his trial on 25th March at the Presteigne assizes.

He was found guilty and sentenced to 4 years penal servitude.

After spending 2 months and 23 days in Presteigne jail. He was, on 17th June, sent to Millbank Prison, Middlesex. On 23rd June he was sent to Pentonville where he spent the next 11 and a half months. On 1st June 1864 he was sent to Chatham before finally on 1st September of the same year being sent to Portland.

Then the trail is lost :(

Just a quick search has found his sister Sophia with a colourful convict history as well. She lost 3 sons in convict nurseries.
Father George, mother Ann, sister Anna and brother Isaac. Isaac surname also as Brodeur (Broadhurst). Sophia, according to records was born in Herefordshire. I have to go out but will search further when I get back. I think she may be in Tasmania somewhere. May not lead to Isaac but you never know. I will give it a try.
Yep. There she is. Transported on the Emma Eugenia 1846 for theft. found in watchmans hut at 4 in the morning. Lived with a Charles White for 4-5 years before transportation. Back to brother Isaac....later

quick question was the Isaac Broadhurst who married in 1872 to an Elizabeth Watkins in Knighton the same person............only I see in the 1863 criminal record says he is married with 5 children seems he must have stayed out of prison sometimes!!!

This could be his son Isaac found on 1881 census age 31 with wife Elizabeth and 3 kids in Lancashire. Child George born 1874.

I was going to go out but heck this is more interesting...
Seeing as that could be his son in Lancashire I looked for a death there and found Isaac Broadhurst age 71 Stockport Lancashire age 71 in 1894! What do you think. Can't find any more over all counties that could fit his age after 1864.

tis is possible but he does seem to be missing between 1863 and then still

I see his son John seems to be in workhouse in Knighton in 1871 there is also a Frederick R broadhurst 3 years younger so may be the one called Robert on 1861.........

Lots of activity on-line forums for this family. One, Genes Reunited has this...
John 1861 census age 3 born Radnoreshire
1871 census age 13 Knighton workhouse
1881 5 Starkie Street West Derby living with White family (again Whites were mentioned in the convict records of Sophia so there must be a relationship)
    1891 Milk Street St Helens
According to this thread after 1891 John moved away and changed his name but reasons for this could not be made public on the forum
Johns father is noted as Isaac and mother Emma but I believe it is Ellin, with a 'i' born Waterford.
Question? Did John move away after his fathers death in 1894 in Lancashire and change his name to be rid of his fathers history?

Isaac Broadhurst was charged by Charles Passey, gamekeeper, with fishing in the Teme, in the lordship of Stanage. The offence being committed out of the county of Radnor, the case was dismissed.

Could this be the same chap?

Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser - Monday 02 August 1869
Isaac Broadhurst and his wife Elizabeth, hawkers, of Chesterfield, were brought up charged with assaulting and beating William Geering, at Golding St, on the 24th inst. The bench fined defendants 10s each and ordered them to pay the costs amounting to 14s 6d, in default of payment 14 days imprisonment with hard labour.

    ETA: or perhaps his son!

So, if this is him then that may have him accounted for in 1867!
Not sure...could be..but his wife was Ellin! Could be the son! His wife was Elizabeth but they may have married in 1872.....

Isaac Snr's sister Sophia was transported under the name of Sophia White aka Broadhurst. Seems she had a child with her when she came but died at the Female Factory. Also known as Sophia Pitchers and Sophia Saunderson.
The White name keeps popping up.
