The Richard Sowter and Mary Ayling Wedny found in 1756 are in those images too @AnnB, Richard's name has been mistranscribed on the BTs as Sonter. No witnesses though, just their names and the date. Then there is a typed tanscript of the same marriage but it shows the witnesses and they seem to crop up a lot. I reckon it is these two who are mine even though the marriage place of the Richard and Elizabeth fits better.

Strike that, they married in 1756, much too late for my two if James the first was born in 1750.

I really should pay attention or better still, not dive in before I have had my second cuppa. Saw Wedny's post and went off piste so fast I could have won an olympic medal. Back to the drawing board, I feel a spreadsheet coming on. Thank you all for your interest.
