Thomas Vivian and Elva Merle Cleverley are residing at #1 Strand, Forrest, W.A. in 1949. His occupation is indicated as W.A.G.R. I don't have any idea as to what that could be.
This is the 1949 Electoral Rolls from FMP.

On Ancestry - I don't have a full world sub - he is living at Andross, Tangney, W.A. in 1977. Maybe that one could list his occupation which may assist me.

    Thanks Ann.

In 1977 he would have been aged 71 so likely retired.

Ancestry has his wife - Bunbury, Forest, W.A. - in 1963. Maybe that'll confirm and possibly give more detail of his occupation.

If it helps Colin Andross should read Ardross a metropolitan suburb and Tangney is the electoral district not an actual suburb. Also with the other one Bunbury is a country town and Forest is the electoral district.

Thanks Wendy. His background in operating a betting shop would come in useful as a Tally Clerk for the Railway.

On Trove 19 August 1934 in Sunday Times (Western Australian) newspaper it reports that a Thomas Vivian Cleverly was arrested with obstructing traffic. Four of his mates were arrested at the same time for running an alleged betting shop.

The West Australian newspaper on 14 Sept 1934 reports that Thomas pleaded guilty, he was find 7 pounds and also had to pay 2 shillings and sixpence costs. Gives a bit more detail of why he did this.

PS If you just search for Thomas Cleverly a number of other instances come up in the Western Australian newspapers, but I don't have time to look to see if it is your Thomas.
