Our population is much more spread out though and high density housing is mostly in the cities. So most of us live in single dwellings in sprawling suburbs with largish (by comparison) blocks of land. I have no idea if that’s the reason or if it’s because we are quite isolated, surrounded by oceans, our nearest neighbour is New Zealand.

Reading a lot about this (my geekish head at play), Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and Singapore all ignored the world Health Organisation advise at the start of this and imposed travel restrictions and strict quarantine very early There is strong evidence that the virus was in Europe well before the first cases were detected and hence a lot of community spread before the governments had time to react etc. I wont go on a rant about it though

We get let out here in France on May 11. Taking bets it will rain every day for a month from May 12? ;)

It’s raining here now and I’ve just demolished a Frys Turkish Delight bar, written across the wrapper ‘60% less fat’. I’m not sure quite what that means but they had better let us out shortly otherwise I’ll be spending a fortune on new clothes when the shops eventually open.

I think I had this at the end of December. A lady came into my office and we had a very long chat. She was due to go to Italy yet again to be with her son
and baby grandson, but the following day she was in hospital and died a week
later on Boxing Day! The symptoms her daughter said she had were rather
familiar to those we hear so much about! My Lady and I were very ill indeed
after and neither of us have fully recovered yet!

Why don’t you have a blood test to check your antibodies. If so you may be needed for a vaccine.

Not sure they are available to us just yet, but it would be interesting to know.
I did have a jab for pneumonia at the same time as the 'flu jab which maybe
helped But I have not seen a doctor for about three years as when I go for my six monthly check up for tablets I always see a nurse or chemist!

I was also very ill with a respiratory infection in January, finally got to see the doctor after 5 weeks of the most awful painful rib-hurting coughing, of course it was easing up by then. On balance we decided not corona, just another bad flu, despite having had the flu jab

I dont mean flu vaccine but they may need your blood if you have the coronavirus antibodies, for the production of a new vaccine.

We've had a lot of cases up here. Like WRL I won't climb on my soapbox otherwise I'll be on it for a while. :sceptical:

I'm on Day 24, still struggling a bit breath-wise, but getting there.

I know so many people who have been blighted by this virus - most of us have received over-the-phone diagnosis, only one person has actually been swabbed as he developed secondary pneumonia and was required to attend hospital (sent home after a few hours with antibiotics, made a good recovery). So in my circle of friends, colleagues, friends and families of friends and colleagues, who have all been symtomatic, only one has been properly tested and therefore been included in the 'confirmed cases'. The actual number of infections must be big. I avoid the tv news like the pla... I mean, I have stopped watching it, but apparently they are looking to increase testing. A lot of us would be interested in an antibody test, if it ever becomes available.

It's been around a lot longer, Burt. Definitely. Far too many 'strange' respiratory infections around December/January.

We are just coming into winter so this thing most certainly could gather speed here. I just wish someone would come clean with the origins of it.....

A bit controversial but you guys have just had your summer and will have spent a fair bit of time outside so your bodies will have produced vitamin D those of us in the northern latitudes have been cocooning and have lower levels of Vit D which has an impact on the immune system.

Our local economy is due to "re-open" starting on May 1st. I haven't seen the new guidelines. I think they are still being worked out. Our county has done well statistically. I'm not sure how that will hold up, though, when the tourists are allowed to return. :( Very angry by antics at the national level, but at least we got our stimulus money in time to pay our house insurance.

Unfortunately one of hubby's cousins passed away with it last week. Only middle 50's. Really sad as he lost his wife 18 months ago and he now leaves 3 kids. The eldest is severely mentally handicapped so the middle girl is now doing everything. They also cant get the emotional support they need as social distancing etc:(

@Bay Horse Horse i also dont watch the news or read a newspaper and havent done since the brexit vote:D

There was a guy on TV from Dubbo, NSW this morning, not sure if he was the Mayor or someone else of note, he is concerned that it is the politicians calling for restrictions to be relaxed. He said if he hears the Chief Medical Officer okaying the lifting of restrictions that would be acceptable but so far the top medical people are quiet, it's only the politicians making the calls or as he put it "big noting themselves".

As a person with no medical background it does seem to me to be dangerous to lift restrictions while new cases are being presented, even if it is now in small numbers.

I was incandescent with rage when they went ahead with Cheltenham Races in mid-March. 60,000 people a day for four days!
How could they inflict that on lovely Cheltenham- I still feel furious at the thought of all those people travelling to one town- all the boozing making people lose their inhibitions and disregard distancing/ handwashing advice.

    I'll shut up now.
(No, you won't mutters my husband in the background)
