This is my grandmother's cousin Jack, John Evans (mother's maiden name Jones), born 1889 in Knighton, Radnorshire.
The family later moved just over the border to the Leominster area (Kingsland) P1100146.JPG , and although he reached adulthood, as the photo shows, my grandmother always told me how he had been killed by a bull.
I am wondering if there might be an online newspaper somewhere to back up the story; I can't find a death for him.

There is a death recorded in the Hereford Registration District of a John EVANS in the December quarter of 1925, volume 6a, page 599. He is noted as being aged 36, which would work with a birth year of 1889.

I have had a quick squizz in some papers but cannot find anything about this chap to confirm that he could be yours :(

That sounds like him! He was baptised John, but they called him Jack.

However, I would have thought that there would have been some sort of newspaper report. Perhaps @AnnB could have a rummage - she is excellent at that sort of thing. ;)

If there was still family living in Wales, there might even be something in the Welsh newspapers. When my great uncle died in a motoring accident in 1930, he made the newspapers in both his home town and where the accident happened. Worth spreading the search - just to make sure.

Indeed, There's not much in the papers past 1920 around here, even on FMP.

My Great Grandfather was also gored by a bull that resulted in his death. No newspaper report unfortunately.

An occupational hazard, if you were a farmer, I imagine.

As Terry says, there isn't a lot on-line for Welsh newspapers around the date of his death, but I will have a look and see if I can find anything.

One of my great uncles died at the age of 31 after being gored by a bull :(

Do not get between a bull and his harem.
We have a bull paddock over yonder. Just three unemployed blokes laying around under the trees chewing the cud.

Of course an article may appear in newspapers anywhere if it's common interest. I couldn't find anything for a death locally for one of mine, but it appeared in two other local papers at different ends of the country. It does pay to throw open the net.

Well, well. What do you know. 'Death of an Old Resident' in the South Western Advertiser, Perth Western Australia. Friday 2nd May 1930. John Nancarrow. There it is. In all its gruesome glory as well a two column obituary. My Nans Dad. I haven't seen it before.:(
Don't you just love 'old resident' he was younger than I am now and I'm not old.

Well, I've had a goodly rummage and have found lots of deaths for chaps named John Evans in the last quarter of 1926 (and January 1927, just in case the report was delayed) and lots of deaths for people killed by bulls - but no John Evans who was killed by a bull. It looks like the death certificate is the only way to go........

Did you try 'Jack', as opposed to 'John'?
