lan-opc.org.uk/indexp.html Heaps of transcribed PRs on this site, I found it tremendously helpful for researching my wife's Lancashire Vose/Vause line and related families. The people who run it were also very helpful with any queries I raised, so top marks to them. Just noticed that at least a couple of people have already mentioned Lancs OPC so I apologise for butting in but on the plus side the actual link wasn't given (Note from Admin: URL edited because they ask for donations)
Sorry I hadn't noticed they asked for donations. Just a thought, if the use of the site and any data obtained is free, does it really matter if they ask for donations? Regards.
If you type in Lancashire Online Parish Clerks to any search engine, you get a link to the site. I can't understand why you let members post the sites link? Not sure how this site raises revenue to run? Or is it if you don't post our link on your site we don't post yours on ours? I know lots of forums that are a little childish that way? M&SFHF
When we set up the site we decided that live links to sites asking for donations or charge fees were not in keeping with the aims of Top Dog. That is, a site which is free to use by all. There are some exceptions to this such as Parish Chest (our sponsor), government organisations and genealogical organisations who have a reciprocal link to us on their web site. A broken or non clicky link can be posted.
Tell me about it. I lose access to my desktop for about 2 hours most afternoons whilst SWMBO transcribes yet another Register (for them). Afterwards, I get lumbered with trying to sort out the 'queries'.
She Who Must Be Obeyed. Wendy, do you mean to tell me that you never watched Minder on the Telly? Arfur, the main character, always referred to his wife as "She Who Must Be Obeyed". A friend of mine often refers to his wife as SWMBO and I must say even in her presence, his wife, a lovely person just smirks.
Oh dear, not in gear at that time Findem. 'twas a fave remark of young Colin also. The Minder,..have vague recollections. Can't remember much before 29th march 2014. Have only just started to fire on all '6' again.
Might jog your memory Wendy, Arthur Daley (Arfur) was played by George Cole and his minder was Terry McCann played by Dennis Waterman who has lately been on TV in the New Tricks series on ABC.
It was also what Rumpole of the Bailey called his wife, Hilda, in secret. The books were written by John Mortimer and later made into a television series.
One discusses ones 'underneaths' ? So long since I partook of TV 'show' of substance one day a computer found it's way into the house, TV shows deteriorated or were governed by the holder of the wretched hand control thingy!.
Phew! A good job I didn't refer to her as 'PITA'. Who knows where the discussion may then have gone? Downhill?
