From the Mirror [Perth WA 1921-1956] of 13 April 1946, it is possible to read of the divorce of George Henry and Alice May Ditchburn nee Cleverley. She had been deserted by G.H. in 1939 and was thusly granted the divorce. 1943 Electoral Rolls: George Henry - Tool Sharpener - residence White Hope [divison of Kalgoorlie] Alice May - Home Duties - residence 186 St. George's Terrace, Perth 1949 Electoral Rolls George Henry - Tool Sharpener - residence Flat C4 353 Hannan Street [subdivision of Kalgoorlie Elvie Edna - Home Duties - same residence as George Henry. It seem likely [and hopefully] that George Henry married between 1946 and 1949, however the only marriage within that time frame is - 1946, Wellington, marriage registration #50 - no spouse mentioned from FMP. Ancestry has a marriage Elvie E. Murdoch. Is it possible that her spouse was George Henry? Thanks
Elvie's death record names her parents. Elvie Edma Ditchburn Birth year 1920 Death year 1973 Place Fremantle Father's first name(s) William L Mother's first name(s) Ethel M State Western Australia
Yes Elvie Edna married my step Great grandfather Frederick James Jones in 1931 and then remarried George ditchburn in 1941 Hope this helps
According to Australia Marriage Index 1788-1950 [on Ancestry] Frederick J. Jones married Elvie E. MOUNTAIN. As I don't have a world sub on A, I can't view details. Found it on FMP - marriage was in Albury, New South Wales in 1931 registration #8943 Coincidence or am I missing something?
Tuesday 26th Oct 1937, Western Argus. 'Pleading guilty to a charge of having behaved in a disorderly manner in a lane off Lane Street, Kalgoorlie on Saturday night, George Henry Ditchburn (34) tool sharpener was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment'. (On a further charge of escaping legal custody, after assaults on females, he was given a further 1 month) Elvie must have been one very brave lady. George had earlier been charged with threatening Alice May with a gun.
She was actually born in 1909 at Brunswick, Victoria, Reg. No. 25148. The 1920 detailed in Post #3 must be a typo as death record actually states birth year of 1910. Colin, you can actually see the details of her birth on the Victoria BDM website and the marriage on the NSW BDM website. I just google BDM Vic or BDM NSW and they come up, similarly with most other states. I have found that the Ancestry transcriptions sometimes give an incorrect place of birth and often double check them on the official site(s).
Name: Elvie Edna Mountain, Birth Date: Abt 1909, Brunswick, Victoria Father: Leslie Wm Mountain Mother: Ethel May Luke Yes, looks like Ancestry made a booby re the age at death #3
