I've received a request for help from an Ancestry member, I can't help, but I said maybe you lot could I am assuming she is looking for info before the marriage ... Hi Christel, I saw your name on a thread re Isle Of Man and was hoping you could help me? I’m trying to find out more about Maria DUFF b.1823 in Isle of Man. She married John THOMSON who was born 1820 in Inversek, Scotland. They had a daughter Eiliza (Ellen) THOMSON/THOMPSON on 3 Apr 1857 in Glasgow. Eliza married Peter JOHNSTON and they migrated to Aust on the Almora in 1884. Are you able to help me? Many thanks Kate.
In 1861, they were living at Hardington Crossing, Wiston, Wiston & Roberton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Maria is recorded as Mary and John is a Station Master. Does she have Maria and John's marriage details? Parish record thereof?
Here is her reply I haven’t been able to locate their marriage cert. I checked Scotland’s People in case they married in Scotland but couldn’t find a record - wasn’t really expecting too as I think they married on Isle Of Man. Verbal history has it that John worked on the ferry between Scotland & the Isle of Man (I do t have any evidence of this). I have John’s baptism as 1 Jan 1821 Inversek, Scotland, parents Peter Thomson & Rebecca Jack. I’m hoping the marriage cert can confirm this is our John.
