Martha was born circa 1835 according to census in Birmingham to William Hughes and Charlotte Lodge.

To date I have been unable to locate a baptism for her.

Would anyone with access to the baptism records be able to assist.

    Thanks.

    Did Martha have any siblings?

Indeed she did Terry: William circa 1831 , Hannah circa 1837 and Thomas circa 1839 and John circa 1847 that I am aware of from the 1851 census. All born Birmingham.

    Thanks for your interest.

    Hi Doug
I can't see a baptism for Martha Ann but have found the following on Family Search which you may already have:

    William born 20/6/1831 - bap 8/4/1833 - St. Phillips, B'Ham.*
    Thomas born 4/1/1840 - bap 3/2/1840 - St. Phillips, B'Ham.
(Can't see anything for Hannah & John who you mention above.)

    There are also these:
Jane born 14/2/1833 - bap 8/4/1833 - St. Phillips, B'Ham. Note that this is the same date as William above.*
    Emma born 9/5/1833 - bap 30/5/1833 - St. Phillips, B'Ham.
    Samuel born 9/5/1842 - bap 31/12/1844 - St. Phillips, B'Ham.
    Elizabeth born 7/5/1844 - bap 31/12/1844 - St. Phillip,. B'Ham.

All the above show parents as William Hughes & Charlotte.
BUT are there 2 couples named William & Charlotte? Jane & Emma both shown as being born in 1833.

    Thanks for looking Sheila,

There are indeed two families with parents William & Charlotte. I know from the marriage certificate for Martha Ann that her father was a sawyer. I have found that family in the 1841 & 1851 census.

There is an Emma Hughes born circa 1833 in the 1841 with the same names for her parents who I think is the Emma you found. HO/107 1139 Book 3 . In that family William was a silversmith.

Strangely, my Martha married James Josiah Swann who was a silversmith in 1857.
