Could some kind person please check the passenger lists for David Orr born 1883 in Stockport married Elizabeth Burgess Marsh in 1906. I can't get to the library and it's annoying me! I've found him in 1901 census and the suggested records that come up on Anc is all concerning USA & Canada. Hope this is ok to ask, apologies if not.
    Thank you

Findagrave has them buried at Westport, MA:

Says he was a WWI veteran.

Bristol County is one of my research hot spots. Cotton mills were a major industry there and across the state line into Rhode Island. I'll run through my source list to see what else I can find.

As usual, Sue has done the stellar job. :) The only additional thing I found was the Fall River town register of David Jr's birth, nothing there we didn't already know. I don't have access to WWI records. I think they are on Fold3 these days. :sceptical:

If his grave isn't on their site somewhere, it won't be listed... or someone just hasn't made the link yet.

I'm trying to remember, Ancestry used to have a recordset of Applications for passports from the 1910's and 20's from the U.S. back to UK, including departures from Boston. Those have small photos attached on the second page. I don't know if @looby might find something there when she gets to the library.

Also, as I'm thinking (stream of consciousness), which country did David Sr serve under - U.S., Canada, or England? My grandfather volunteered with the American Field Service ambulance corps in France before the U.S. decided to join the fight.

    That's all for me tonight.

This is amazing. Thank you so much all of you. I think Annie is his sister Sarah Annie born 1886. I couldn't find her in 1911. There were also 2 other brothers Frank and William. I found Frank's military record and it looks as if he was in WW1 and then applied to be repatriated in 1919. William was killed. Without access to worldwide I haven't been able to check their immigration dates. Ellen Derbyshire was their mum. I'll go and study and absorb all this info. You lot are ace.

I've never posted an image before so here's hoping. Why does a man of 58yrs have a draft registration card?

The Fourth Registration or Old Mans Registration was conducted on April 27 1942. The purpose of the registration was to collect information on industrial capacity and skills of men born between April 27 1877 and Feb 16 1897.

This is from World War 2 (add 58 years to 1883). It's called the Old Man's Draft. Quote from FamilySearch wiki:
    Snap, Sue! :)
