C|:-)Welcome BLH to the forum. Pleased to have you aboard.

As to Hugh Beresford there are many articles on him on our National Archives website 'Trove' Trove covers newspapers from inception here until around 1960.
Will see what else might turn up. Could it not be his birth name do you think?

I can't find any ship passenger lists for him, Sue. The flight record you found could be him.

For such a 'famous' person apart from his newspaper articles he is certainly hard to pin down!!!! I found him as 'Associated Hat Designers' with Aage Thaaru, Braun-Spierer and Pissot and Pavy. As usual I didn't write down where I found it. It will turn up again no doubt. He seems to appear in New York a few times as well.

I've not found anything to definitely tie Hugh above to Hugh the milliner, I was hoping to find a death announcement giving an age for Hugh the milliner but I've run out of steam and my eyes are weary.

I wonder if Hugh Beresford was a part only of his name?

One wonders also did he marry & where?
Was he of 'noble' birth or the other?

    Seems that way!
Not sure he did marry! Many hints that he didn't. The main reason is that he talks about his cottage in Sussex.
There are a few similar names of noble origin aren't there?
Gee I mucked that up. Never mind...

It's weird, you would think that such a well known person would have had his death reported on the newspapers!

Is it worth looking for a possible him as a baby in the 1911 census or is that a silly suggestion! (I don't have any subs).
