I have Charles Mills born 1806 in Angmering according to 1841 right through to 1891. He married Jane Miles in 1826 and their firstborn as far as I can tell was a George. I cannot find a baptism for him. An interesting aside is that none of their children have a MMN on the Gro indexes. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Just a thought but, as Jane's surname was MILES, just one letter away from MILLS, I wonder if the marriage transcription has been misread and her surname is really MILLS. Then, when the births were registered for the children, as the MMN was the same as the married name and the births were very early on in the registration process, that the Registrar did not record it as it was the same. Anyway, just a thought.... The original is needed....
Check out Family Search as it looks like there are baptisms for more children. The 1841 census appears to have Frances (1829) and Charlotte (1834) as well. Book 1, piece 1093, folio 6, page 4
Alfred (Albert in 1861 census) born 1852 has MMN Miles on the GRO index Baptised on 20 March 1852 at Angmering as Alfred, so I am sure it is him.
I think their first born was Mary in 1826. Possibly 13 children in total, George being in 1840 and the last, Alfred in 1852.
You say that George was their first born but you don't say when this George was born. The only baptisms and possible deaths I can find are these.
Noooooo sorry to waste everyone's time, its Charles's baptism I need not his offspring 1806 he says on census. My bad explanation.
There are a couple of possibles Charles Mills Baptism date - 23 Nov 1804, Angmering, Sussex Father - Charles Mills Mother - Mary or Charles Mills Baptism date - 15 Jun 1806, Ferring, Sussex Father - George Mills Mother - Phillis Ferring is about 3 n half miles from Angmering.
I would be tempted to look further into the first one that @Chimp posted above. This is based upon the first child being Mary (as was his mother) and his year of birth from the census. Being estimated as born in 1806 from the census would more likely fit a year of being born in 1805. As there is a baptism towards the end of 1804, this would probably match better.... If you see what I mean... Oh yes, and it's Angmering.
And also the first son being named after the father's father. Their first son was named Charles, which also is the father of Charles born 1804
