Sorry this is going to be a long post trying to give as much data as possible

Sarah Ann CARTER aged 21 marries Thomas HAYWARD 29 November 1852 Witnesses Alfred and Fanny BABB, father George CARTER a caster

Fanny CARTER full age marries Alfred BABB 20 October 1851 father George CARTER (deceased) a caster

George CARTER full age marries Hannah GALEAN 26 November 1849 father George CARTER a caster

    1841 Census H107/985/9/11 has
George CARTER aged 50 occ Caster
    Elizabeth aged 43
    John Aged 14
    George aged 10
    Sarah aged 10
    Fanny aged 8

19 October 1846 George CARTER aged 57 a caster dies informant Elizabeth FINCHETT present at death

6 December 1847 Elizabeth CARTER full aged a widow marries Thomas HUGHES widower her father is given as Robert FINCHETT (FINCHARD) depending on transcription.

    1851 Census H107/2020/447/18
    Thomas HUGHES 59
    Elizabeth aged 63
    George CARTER aged 22
    Hannah CARTER wife aged 21
    Thomas CARTER son aged 5
    Elizabeth CARTER granddaughter aged 1
    Plus 3 lodgers

14 July 1810 George CARTER and Elizabeth FINCHETT marry at St Peter’s Church Wolverhampton

Between 1810 and 1850 there are nine baptisms in Staffordshire to George and Elizabeth CARTER

3 at St Peter’s Church Wolverhampton all with father’s occupation of Caster
6 at St Giles Willenhall all with the father’s occupation of Jobbing Smith

1841 census has a family of George and Elizabeth CARTER living in Willenhall with 5 out of the six children with father occ jobbing smith so I am happy this is not my family and is most likely to be George CARTER and Elizabeth SMITH married 1824 Darleston Staffordshire.

The 3 baptism I believe belong to my family are

    William 1813
    Emily 1827
    George 1829

    Questions
1 Where are the other children you would expect given the 14 year gap between William and Emily? Or where was George during that time etc.

2 No trace of a baptism for John, Sarah or Fanny

3 is it possible there is a third family of George and Elizabeth I have missed

4 is the five year old Thomas in the 1851 the son of George or Thomas

now to go and give my head a rest

George Carter married Hannah Galear in Willenhall, St Giles on 26 Nov 1849. George says father is George Carter a Caster

I take it the Elizabeth born 1850'ish on the 1851 census is their daughter ?

The only Elizabeth Carter I can find born 1850 +/- a year is :-

    CARTER, ELIZABETH
    MMN CALLEAR
GRO Reference: 1850 M Quarter in WOLVERHAMPTON & SEISDON Volume 17 Page 361

Callear/Galear can sound the same to an untrained ear.

    There is this birth

    CALLEAR, THOMAS
    MMN -----
GRO Reference: 1847 M Quarter in WOLVERHAMPTON & SEISDON Volume 17 Page 371

So could he be the illegitimate son of Hannah ?

    Thanks Chimp

That would explain the son Thomas on the 1851 census aged 5 looks like his married married after his birth

On the above marriage neither George or Hannah signed so Hannah wouldn't know that they spelled her name incorrectly.

Hannah's father is named as Alphonso Galear on the marriage cert but there is no one of that name, that I can find on the censuses, but I can find an Alphonso Callear
