George RIGGLESFORD was born in Hawkhurst, Kent in 1849 and was baptised there on 25th February.

He married Emma WILLETT on 22nd July 1873 at Christchurch, Kilndown, Kent and they went on to have a raft of children:
    Thomas 1874 – 1875 Ore, Hastings
Emma Mildred 1874 – 1943 Ore, Hastings (Thomas’ twin)
    George Randall 1875 - ? Liverpool, Lancashire
    Ronald McLeod 1876 – 1955, Everton, Lancashire
Harriet Naomi 1878 – 1878, West Derby, Lancashire
    Henry 1878 – 1953, West Derby, Lancashire (Harriet’s twin)
*William Thomas Edward 24th February 1881 – 1941, West Derby, Lancashire

    Catherine 1883 – 1956

Emma died in Paddingon, London in 1888 – she had been born Goudhurst, Kent in 1855 - and George (snr) died in 1923.

I have noted the birth date of William Thomas Edward * as it is the 1881 census that I am searching for.

I have the family in 1871: Broad Sanctuary Depository, Westminster, London, where George was a Metropolitan Police Constable.
I have them in 1891: 3 Goldsmith Road, Peckham, London, where the widowed George is a Horsekeeper.

In 1889, Catherine and Emma were sent to Australia and in the 1890s, William was sent to Canada.

I have no idea as to what happened to George (jnr) after 1924... but the rest of the family have been well and truly tracked down.

However, it is the 1881 census that I am searching for. Please note that RIGGLESFORD is open to many, many different spellings ... RIGLESFORD, RIGARLSFORD, WRIGGLESFORD, WRIGGLESWORTH... you get my drift? :headbang:

    Thank you in anticipation. :)

Thanks both. I reckon that they were either recorded under a completely different name (enumerator error copying across, perhaps?) or they were in hiding... :sceptical:

FS have the baptism Thomas Rigglesford , 14 Mar 1881 parents George and Emma , abode 97 Beacon Lane. Looking at the address search for 1881 census on FMP there is no 97 Beacon Lane shown.
Ronald also had a late baptism in May 1881, abode this time 197 Beacon Lane, - but the Rigglesfords were not at that address on census night.

I don't know, Wendy, but I don't think so - there would be no reason for them to pop over to Ireland, for instance.
I was having a rummage last night on my Kindle and found that George Jnr signed up to the army in 1892 in Liverpool, so they were still there then. I need to have a further delve today on the laptop. :)
