Navy marriage for Rowland Westwood?

Just read through all this and ... gosh, darn and strike me pink! This family was so messed up and I didn't notice!! I guessed that Roland might not have married the mother of his son as he seemed to have become very erratic. But all these different surnames! I'll have to re-write a few branches of the Westwood family tree! Thank you @Archie's Mum, and @Chimp for all this sleuthing! And more to go...

Why does Roland Westwood Parsons' birth record say his mother was Howell?

Or did his mother put HER OWN mother's surname there?

 

Sarah Jane Howell married widower John Parsons. She left him for Roland Westwood and gave birth to his son Roland Westwood Jn. But she was still Sarah Jane Parsons and she registered Roland Jn as Parsons as that was her legal name. Her maiden name was Howell. Hence Roland Westwood Parsons mmn Howell.

 

Aha! I thought she was a Parsons by birth- hadn't realised there was that marriage that masked her maiden name of Howell! Silly me!
