This news came in today. New parish register images online We regularly update Essex Archives Online with images of newly deposited parish registers, but one addition worth mentioning is the modern registers of St Mary the Virgin, Prittlewell. This was the ancient parish whose ‘South End’ became Southend-on-Sea, and it still covers a significant part of the town. The newly available registers (about 4,300 images) cover baptisms 1893-1968, marriages 1898-1957, and burials 1852-1935, 1952-1988 – although there was one last entry in the burial register in 2001, when works in the churchyard disturbed some anonymous bones that then had to be re-buried. You can view the images for free in the ERO Searchroom and at our Archive Access Points in Saffron Walden and Harlow, or subscribe to view from home.
