Non Conformist Burials

MollyMay

Knows where to find the answers!
Can anyone enlighten me on the abbreviation used here.
From the England & Wales Non Conformist and non parochial Registers 1567-1936 (Anc)
for Mary Cotton burial December 1757 - it says Lambs Hill, but the original says Linfit
1771590494856.webp
I would guess the m with the superscript d means married, but what is after

Thank you

It looks like 'Sept_r' to me, with a raised cursive 'r'. I'm not convinced.

ETA Married Sister (long 's')? The reason I say that is because I can find 'M.d Br' on some of the male entries.

That's what I thought, @MollyMay Page 150 of the records, there's a Martha Oates, a married Sr of Whyke (his spelling of placenames isn't very good and his abbreviations inconsistent).

I don't know anything about the Moravian church. Mind you, I didn't know anything about Mennonites until last night.

AI says yes, @MollyMay 'Sister' and 'Brother' are official titles for members, it says - historically the members organised into 'Choirs' based on gender and marital status. Makes sense. Also that some of the burial entries say 'from Choir House'.

You and me both ;) haven't even heard of Mennonites:eek:

Yes, I could find no consistency in the abbreviations, in that register and realised early on whoever wrote it, put the place names pretty much as he heard them.

Brilliant @Bay Horse, I saw those choir house references and wondered, but as they were not against any of the people I was looking for I didn't try and find what they meant.

Oh Jenny, I've just typed out a whole reply saying exactly that as there are all sorts of variations in the annotations including md Br as well as md Sr I was distracted by other things and you beat me to it :D x
