A few months back I posted a question asking for help deciphering some words on a marriage record.

The couple getting married had dispensation at 3rd and 4th degree consanguinity, which at the time of my post i thought was 3rd and 4th cousins marrying.

Er nope I was very wrong it is closer than that 2nd cousins or Uncle Niece.

My maternal uncle married his 2nd cousin in the 1970's, nobody batted an eyelid. First cousins can legally marry in the UK.

This is a Catholic marriage mid 1800's which at the time the cannon law of the Catholic church it forbid marriages closer than 4th cousin

I'm not too worried about cousin-marriages, but the man who married his step-daughter did turn my stomach a bit
