I do my best thinking in the shower.......if it is the Harriett who married William Rowe in Tasmania and I feel that it is, then she couldn’t have married anyone as she was married already.
I haven’t got ANC but maybe a search of depArtures from Tassie for just the name Harriett, no last name, from 1835/6 for a few years forward may reward you. I can’t find a departure for Piper or Rowe but if she took off with someone else....
I will have another look after some domestic duties, shopping $ $7 for half a pumpkin :eek::eek: and other duties.

Well I have had a look at the tree you found and on ANC and found a few trees with the same Harriet who died in Bathurst being first married to William Rowe then to Dennis Handley. One had her with the Evans man but we know that is the wrong one. One tree had her with a John Wenham in the Hunter area. They say that she had two daughters to him Louisa in 1840 died young and Eliza 1842 -1902. But then she had our Eliza in 1843 so this looks unlikely.
Most of the trees on ANC have Henry and Anne as Harriet’s parents but it seems to me that they all follow the leader without checking. I researched this family before I even had a computer so 30 years ago now.
We had a little 15 mls of rain last Friday night and it is supposed to be back tomorrow, the ground is still very wet. But I have to go out now and water my orchids and that takes a long time when you have 1600 of them.
Sue thanks for your help with this. I can’t find out much on William Rowe or if they had any children in Tassie. I did see that he has Norfolk Is on one of his crime list, he must have been a bad ****** as he kept getting 25 lashes and then 50 lashes, it makes my blood run cold thinking about it. Can you see what you can find on him please.

1600 orchids? Oh my! I have a couple or two but I do have a spider orchid that flowered for the first time in about 5 years and I have two slipper orchids that belonged to Mum at Miranda and I wasn’t certain that they would survive here. But yay they flower. 8(:-)
William Rowe marriage says he was free when he married Harriet but I will look into it.

The marriage of Wiliam Rowe and Harriett Piper took place on the 4th August 1835 at Bonney Flats (I think that was somewhere near Deloraine). The very same time and place an Elizabeth Ann Rowe married John Curtis. It looks like William and Elizabeth Rowe are siblings. Wiliam and Elizabeth were free. He wasn’t a convict.
In 1837, leaving Hobart for Sydney is an ‘Elizabeth’ Piper on the barque ‘Eudora’. I just have to figure out how to open the register book on Tasmania names Index as that will tell me on what ship she arrived in the Colony.

I had a look at some information that states Elizabeth Ann Rowe was born in Cornwall to John Rowe and Elizabeth Ann Gynn. Her baptism is at Laneast in 1822 but that makes her too young unless she baptised at a later age. Interestingly she has a brother William baptised in 1816. She has a few children in Tasmania to John Curtis and one is named Harriett another William.
I can’t yet seem to find when they arrived.

Not that it means anything but William Cox’s (Dennis Handley’s employer) wife was Elizabeth Piper.

I saw that years ago, I wonder if they are connected, unlikely but possible I guess. I now believe that the Tassie one has to be ours. I would like to find out more about her in Tassie though.

    I would too..
I found that William Rowe and his sister Elizabeth Ann came out with their parents. Elizabeth Ann Rowe snr died at East Arm East Tamar in 1874 (if I can remember correctly) She was the wife of a farmer. East Tamar is up towards George Town. It would have been quite wild back then. There is a Wiki Tree that says John Rowe died in 1840 but I cant it anywhere. There was one a close age but he died in Hobart and was a pauper, so I would be surprised if that was him.
I will keep trying but I think I have exhausted all possibilities. I'm fairly sure she has changed her name.

I’m getting close to finding more on William Rowe. He was apparently one of many children to John Rowe and Elizabeth Ann. One of those is Roger Rowe. 1848 Census has Roger Rowe, East Arm East Tamar. But I did find that Roger Rowe left Tasmania in 1854 on the Lady Bird but his ship to the colony was the Clarence. William Rowe according to a tree on Ancestry has him born in 1816 and dying in 1872, but where?

William's mother Elizabeth Ann died of old age on 21st August 1876. She was a farmers widow.

Death was registered in a letter by her grandson.
