    Folks,
Keith was born in Birregurra,Victoria,Australia in 1898,then in 1910 the family moved to South Africa. He enlisted in RAF (date unknown),rose to rank of Second Lieutant,20th Squadron, was a pilot and died 3 Sep 1918,buried Calais.
Were the men photographed on enlistment,as in Australia? These records would be at TNA?
This is the last of my great grandparent's grandsons who died during WW1 and i am just trying to tie up loose ends.
    Regards,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,

I don't think that photographs were taken on enlistment, sadly. March 13th 1912 saw the instigation of the Royal Flying Corps with the Royal Air Force finally coming into being on 1st April 1918.

Have a read of these TNA research guides on the RFC Airmen, the Officers and the RAF as it might point you towards Keith PENROSE's service record.

You could try an appeal to an Ex Service Association, there might have been an official group photo taken company or unit level, someone out there might have one and be able to give you a copy.

    Hello Kym,

Sadly, Eric is no longer a member of the forum and so is unable to help. :(
