    Hi Everyone,

You would have noticed when you arrived at the site recently you were prompted to re confirm your agreement to the site's terms/rules and privacy policy.

This is part of a recent software update to ensure our site's compliance with the recent GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations). I won't bore you with the details, but it applies to sites which have members from the European Union.

For more information, you can visit the Wikipedia page outlining information about GDPR:

    Code:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation
As always, both these prompts are available for your reading any time and can be found at the following links:

    https://genealogy-specialists.com/help/terms

    https://www.genealogy-specialists.com/help/privacy-policy

Which are also located in the bottom right hand corner of the site.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with @Daft Bat, any of the site's moderators or myself if you have any questions. :)

Thank you for your assistance. :)

Oman, for a second when I came through the door I thought that YOU thought I was a newbie instead of an old and established annoyance. However, being the accommodating soul that I am I duly read and accepted.

I read & accepted too but had dramas logging in, the terms page was the only one that would load up until I logged out completely (something I never do ) & signed in again.

    Thanks for letting us know.

There should be two pages that you need to visit - it takes you through to the second one straight after the first. It threw me a curve ball when I did it until I realised. :)

I had a little problem figuring out the second page was different - perhaps a Pg 2 or other indication?

I know this the GDPR is a pain in the neck for all the tech and content providers. I'm glad for the transparency it provides, and the ability for the user to opt out and delete information - not here so much, but other places and apps. My email provider of over 20 years was recently purchased by a mega-communications firm. Thanks to GDPR they were forced to reveal that they read our emails to target advertising and other unworthy reasons. :( I'm in the process of moving all my subs. Not fun, but necessary. Like cleaning out the closet after a rodent infestation.

Thanks to Oman, Jan, Doug, et al for the fact that there were no surprises in today's disclosures, and I have no pause whatsoever in agreeing to terms. :)

This has been a techical update from our software providers, XenForo, so I don't think that we can tinker with it. :(

He's making a list, he's checking it twice.
He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice....

Santa Claus is in contravention of Article 4 of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679

    (4) 'profiling' means any form of automated processing of personal data consisting of the use of personal data to evaluate certain personal aspects relating to a natural person, in particular to analyse or predict aspects concerning that natural person's performance at work, economic situation, health, personal preferences, interests, reliability, behaviour, location or movements;

    Just sayin :D

I guess I'm in contravention too, having chosen a pegasus over a horse or a unicorn, or a lama or a rhinoceros or a zebra or ..............................

Oh well I'll just go pack my bag and wait for the latest version of the PC brigade to knock on my door.

The one thing that will keep me sane during my incarceration is this:

I think that nearly all of us are, as very few of us have a true representation of ourselves as our avatar - apart from @Chimp of course. That is a true, accurate likeness.... :D
