Recording DNA Matches

Goes out of her way to help
Hi,

Am interested in how or if people record their DNA matches in their software? I have Family Tree Maker & only have a very small tree attached to my DNA on Ancestry, so would like to maybe record them on FTM.

I have exactly the same question, because MacFamilyTree, which I use, seems to have no facility to identify DNA match persons. I have therefore done two things. Firstly I attach as media the symbol for DNA to the match person, so instead of a photograph I see the symbol. I can put the cM into the person's name but only as a suffix but it doesn't appear in the tree until I search for it.

The second thing I've resorted to doing is to create a Word diagram using text boxes with names inserted and lines from the shapes library to join them up. I also fill the relevant text boxes with colour to indicate how the DNA I'm interested in descends to my living matches in each case.

I am astonished that the FH software world seems to have ignored how DNA is now occupying the lives of so many of us as we seek to discover our ancestors.

I use Legacy software full time & largely ignore the others even my online trees.
I use a hashtag for DNA & any other items I want hilighted eg. Those killed in war, those with sibs who marry sibs in another family, same with cousins or husbands who marry in laws.
This hilights the hashtag on the family page, a simple click on this shows what it's for.
DNA could even be placed in any of the various notes allowed for each BMD listed

DNA Records (Deluxe Edition only)

The DNA Records screen (which is only available in the Deluxe Edtion of Legacy) is reached by clicking the button on an individuals Information screen.
Legacy lets you record the results of various DNA marker tests available to anyone. Comparing the test results of different individuals can often indicate a common ancestor within a predicted number of generations.
+ more on tests.

Just shows what can be missed when you don't go looking :D

I did find on Legacy, I still have to input the DNA icon into each individual persons media. so not the short cut I thought it was.
