Hi My dear friend passed away last year and I wanted to do her very interesting family history for her husband. She was half Mauritian and half English and travelled the world, ending up going between Hawaii, Alaska and W. Australia as a dancer and a builder! But I can't get very far with her father's history. He was a stone mason from Mauritious who'd come to England and had family in France. I just can't find any records! Help? Where would I look? Thanku
Hi Lauren, Welcome to the forum! Have a look at the National Archives of Mauritius website: http://nationalarchives.govmu.org/NationalArchivesServices/faq.do A good starting point. Good luck!
Woo hoo Lauren you found us. Good to have you here mate. Trust me these guys on here are legends so im sure lots of help will come your way. Xx
And if you like to post what details you already have, I am sure some of the sleuths on here might be able to find some information for you. By the way, welcome to the Forum. Janet
Hi Janet Precious little I'm afraid. My friend was Annette Victorien b Mar 1962 GB d 2016 WA. She lived in England, Alaska, Hawaii and Western Australia Her father was Louis Phillipe Victorien b 1932 d 2013. I can find records for her mum and family but can't get anything for her dad bar a possible father, Frank. Her mum is English, her dad Mauritian. He also had family in France and Australia. Any help gratefully received! Thanku anyone Lauren x
On FreeBMD there is the marriage below. If it's Annette's parents marriage the certificate would give you Louis father's name. Marriages Dec 1961 PETTY Linda J VICTORIEN Winchester 6b 1360 VICTORIEN Louis P PETTY Winchester 6b 1360
And that is all I can find as well, Lauren, apart from Annette's birth registration, using Ancestry, FMP and IGI Family Search, no census records, travel records, nothing. At least obtaining the marriage certificate will confirm whether his father is indeed Frank Albert and give us his father's occupation. Janet
Hello You probably already know this, but googling brings up Phillippe and Linda Victorien as members of the Baha'i faith in Winchester. Perhaps that church will have some further information. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/bahaihistoryuk.wordpress.com/2012/11/27/david-lewis
Thank you, I also managed to find Frank Albert, and have ordered the certificate in the hope that this verifies it! I didn't know they were of the Baha'i faith though; that's interesting! I'll let you know what I find out..
