Remembered - But Not St Patrick

Today is St Patrick’s Day and I know that there will be celebrations. But if you happen upon Ye Olde Ferry Inn at Holywell, just outside of St Ives in Cambridgeshire, you may be advised not to walk upon one section of the flagstones in the bar.

A lass by the name of Juliet Tewsley was in love with a chap by the name of Tom Zoul, so today, 17th March back in 1050, she waited for him by the river with a bunch of flowers to declare her love. But… he spurned her advances! :( Completely distraught, Juliet hanged herself from a tree. :nailbiting:

Because she was a suicide, she could not be buried in consecrated ground so they dug a grave close to the Inn. Eventually, the Inn was added to over the years and the floor extended over her grave. There is now a stone marking the spot and Staff apparently avoid walking over it in case it generates ghostly apparitions. Customers are advised not to as well… ;)
