    Hi there!

This is one of my brick walls!

My great-grandmother Rose Ada (or Ada Rose) Hooten or Hooton married George Royal in Queensland in 1915. She was born in or around 1889 in Aldershot or Harley Wintney, Hampshire. She died 5 April 1976 in Wynnum, Brisbane, Queensland. Her death certificate states she was born in Aldershot but I've never been able to find a record of her birth. There is a record for Hartley Wintney but I can't confirm her parents. Her parents are listed as Henry Hooton or Hooten and Margaret, possibly Harvey. I think she came to Queensland around 1911??

I have never been able to find much about this branch of my family tree. If anyone can help, you guys can! I am hoping to see if I can grow this branch and narrow down exactly where she was born, her parents, her parents parents and if she had any siblings.

Thanks so much!!! I am ever grateful!

    Kirsty

This is most interesting, on Queensland assisted passenger lists there is arriving on the SS Suffolk 11th August 1911 a Rose Hooton. She is 21 years of age but her place of birth is Ireland. Also after the name Rose is in brackets in very small writing, the words (or Smith, Eva)
Now please don't ask me to find this again as Queensland Records have in their wisdom changed the set up. I had the devils troubles working it out to get that far.

This lady was a domestic and the SS Suffolk left Liverpool on 10th June arriving in Brisbane 11th August. I'm not sure if Ireland was her place of birth or her previous place of residence. I can't increase the zoom to read it.

The title heading for that column just says 'COUNTY OR COUNTRY'

I also noticed that whoever filled in the record has her as a 'single adult male'

Her Birth on Freebmd has Hartley Wintney, Hampshire. Where's Aldershot?

Hartley Wintney is only about 8 and half miles from Aldershot, they are both in Hampshire.

Thank you! I appreciate it! I have never been able to see the full record of her emigration.

Her parents marriage evades me though. Checked Freebmd from 1870 until 1889. Nothing.
Now! I wonder where Eva Smith comes into it!!!!!

The only other Hooton was John Hooton in 1863. No Hootens that I could find.

Just a quick thought - Aldershot = Army, so the marriage could be anywhere (even abroad, Ireland etc.)
Your best bet would be to get the birth reg that Chimp found and then get her father's name and profession.
