I think I can answer the question about the Proctor/Valentine puzzle. Looking at Scotland's people. a William Proctor married an Agnes Valentine in 1886 in Dundee. There are trees on Ancestry which have this couple and one of their children was James Proctor, born 1883, supposedly in Dundee. I can't find the birth of a James Proctor in Scotland who would fit the bill, but I haven't delved too deeply. Maybe we should add Valentine to the list of Rose's surnames.....:D And yes, it has been fun

My cousin who lives in Suffolk, has looked into the Downham Hall, mentioned as the address for Rose/Beatrice's 'friend', on one of the workhouse records.

It was used by the Canadian Forces in WW1 - Lumberjacks, and wait for it... British prisoners:rolleyes:

So was George Warriner the soldier and Fred'k James Proctor the prisoner?
and no - don't try and find out if that is true!

Thanks for the Valantine link, that does look right, and at least Valantine was not an aliaso_O

I know I said I wouldn't, but I think I have found the Canadian service record for James Proctor born Dundee with a dob of 25/2/1883 (the 1939 reg with Beatrice shows a dob as 25/2/1882).
NOK mother Agnes V Proctor living in Ontario.
I still have the rest to read, but things are begining to come together, I hope.

Using the trees on Anc. (dangerous I know) but Agnes V Proctor, now widowed from William (precise details of his death in 1893 on tree) emigrated to Toronto in 1912 and died there in 1920.
So I now have both (well 2) of the men in Rose/Beatrice's life members of the Canadian forces.

Yes, but we can't help ourselves can we - we have to keep digging even if the person is only remotely connected and, let's face it, they are usually the more interesting ones :D I wonder if Rose pottered off to Canada......

I checked Electoral Registers and Beatrice (Rose) and James are listed at 111 Rusthall Avenue up until 1965 - the latest the records go up to on "A".

I'm useless at doing a link (it would take me hours to look up how to do it ), but post #25 mentions a probable marriage to James G Proctor / James G Valantine - in Ealing - found my MollyMay's cousin.
