Samuel Durk married Sarah Kitch in 1838 in Taunton Reg. District, Somerset. Samuel's father was Moses Durk and the father of Sarah was Moses Kitch. Samuel and Sarah baptised the following children:
Elizabeth - 2 Jun. 1839 - Creech St. Michael, Somerset
Moses - 3 Oct. 1841 - Creech St. Michael, Somerset
Mary Jane - 29 Mar. 1841 - Creech St. Michael, Somerset
Ellen - 12 Aug. 1849 - Creech St. Michael, Somerset
William - 16 Feb. 1851 - Creech St. Michael, Somerset
Emily - 25 Dec. 1853 - Creech St. Michael, Somerset
James Kitch - 20 Apr. 1856 - Creech St. Michael, Somerset
Charles Henry - 20 Feb. 1859 - Creech St. Michael, Somerset
Edwin George - 23 Feb. 1862 - Creech St. Michael, Somerset.

I'll return to the 9 children later

    For now I just want to concentrate on Samuel and Sarah;
Samuel and Darah along with their 5 children can be found in the 1851 census - H0107/1922/396/51 - he is an Ag. Lab.
As for 1861 census the only people found are Elizabeth [age 21 and a servant] - RG9/1726/54/36 and Emily [age 7 and a Visitor] RG9/1615/10/14.

    Can the others be found?

Then in 1871 - RG10/2368/92/4 - Samuel and Sarah along with the 3 youngest. Samuel is a Farm. Lab. Their age is 59 [Samuel] and 53 [Sarah]. I cannot find Samuel and Sarah after the 1871 census.

I'd like to know what happened after 1871 to them

    Thanks

Yes, I have these all but discounted them as I 'felt' that the ages at death were inconsistent with the baptism records I had found [and accepted].

    Now I' not sure.

Silly, silly a persons age can be anything it depends on who gave the information to 1. the census enumerator and 2. the informant for the death's to the authority.

The only ages you can count on are the children's birth's as they are official records. Parish records are the same should be taken with a pinch of salt

Death registration for a Sarah DURK in the September qtr 1877, at Taunton reg district, aged 60 as Archie's Mum has found which does fit with her age on the 1861 census record. There is also a burial record for Sarah DARK on the National Burial Index buried 20 July 1877 at Creech St Michael plus one for Samuel DARK on 21 December 1879 at Creech, aged 67.

Thank you Sandie for posts 7 & 8. I have these events and can now look to the parents of Samuel and Sarah before I tackle the kids.

Could this be your Sarah's baptism. Ancestry have a record at Octagon Chapel & Temple (Wesleyan) Taunton for a Sarah born 27 January 1814 baptised 22 March 1815, daughter of Moses & Ruth KITCH of Fawley, Somerset. Several other children baptised there to the same parents. Pallot's Marriage Index shows a marriage at North Curry in 1802 for a Moses KITCH & Ruth EDWARDS. Ancestry's Somerset records show the marriage to have taken place on 5 January 1802 & that Moses was from Ashill. Should give you something to get your teeth into Colin!

Yes I have both of these and this is part of what confused me about the deaths reported by AM in post #2.

I know that what SandieHall said in post #5 can often be the case here and from 1851 onwards the ages recorded in the various census records were consistent with a birth c. 1812. That is why I 'plumped' for the baptism of 29 March 1812.

What I found interesting were the following 4 baptisms:
1] The one for Samuel on 13 Sep. 1807 - mother Elizabeth
2] A daughter Anne - baptised in West Cranmore on 13 Sep. 1807 - mother Anne and father Moses.

The Samuel bapt. 1807 may have died - but nothing found so far and since I don't know which death is correct [the one in 1878 or 1879], the record on the NBI has his age as 67 seems to confirm the 1879 death, that is why I went with the one in 1812.

3] The one for Samuel - with mother Betty
4] A daughter Jane - mother Elizabeth, father Moses - baptised 30 Aug. 1816 Creech St. Michael.

It is the last 2 that I believe are mine.

Hi Sandie -and others, I have already some details on the parents of Sarah Kitch [Moses Kitch and Ruth Edwards] and will detail what I have for them shortly.

It is likely that I'll need help with the parents of Samuel Durk!!

Parents and siblings of Sarah Kitch - who was born 27 January 1814 and baptised 22 March 1815.
1] Moses Kitch married Ruth Edwards 5 January 1802 in North Curry, Somerset.
2] In addition to Sarah, they baptised 2 other children at the same place of Sarah's baptism:
    John - born 19 February 1809 and Elizabeth - born 29 November 1811. Both baptised 15 April 1812.
3] Moses and Ruth can both be found in 1841 census - ages rounded to 65 and no children at home. Both born in County and living in North Curry, Somerset.
4] Moses died 23 March 1847 and was buried at the Quaker Burial Ground, Bridgwater, Somerset. Ruth die 3rd q. 1843 - but so far I haven't been able to confirm a burial. Given that the ages were rounded in 1841 and that they died before 1851 I have estimated their birth year as c. 1776 - but have not found baptisms for either.

Still working on the 2 other siblings of Sarah.

    Siblings of Sarah Kitch:
    1] John Kitch
He can be found in the 1841 census with wife Ann and 4 children - Sarah, Lavinia, Lucy and John. They live in Bridgwater, Somerset. Transcribed as RITCH.
Their daughter - Lucy - born 1838 died shortly after the 1841 census.

1851 census now has the family with 6 children [including Lucy #2] in Bridgwater. Still transcribed as RITCH. H0107/1925/19/30. Children are - Sarah, Lavinia, John, Charles, Lucy [1845] and Emma.

1861 census has family with just 4 children at home - John, Lucy, Emma and Amelia [1852]. Now transcribed as KITCH. RG9/1624/57/1. Still in Bridgwater.

It would appear that John sr. died in Bridgwater 1st q. 1864. It also appears that his wife Ann - maiden name PARKHOUSE - died 16 December 1884 in Bridgwater.

To complete the file on John can a marriage [hopefully prior to 1835] be found between John KITCH and Ann PARKHOUSE?

    2] Elizabeth Kitch
I have not found her in the 1841 census - but - in Bridgwater 2nd q. 1844 there is a death recorded that I think is my Elizabeth - vol. 10, page 241.
