Picking brains. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to find records of staff at Sandringham. This would be before the Royal Family bought the estate. My 2x Gt. Grandmother was head housekeeper there. I have previously emailed Sandringham archives but they advised they only hold records from when the Royal family took over the estate and advised I speak to Norfolk records/archives office but they only referred me back to Sandringham. Getting dizzy going round in circles
If you type "Sandringham Hall" into the search bar on the Norfolk Archives site then there are several pre-1862 records including these: https://nrocatalogue.norfolk.gov.uk/henry-hoste-henley-of-sandringham-hall https://nrocatalogue.norfolk.gov.uk/papers-of-henry-hoste-henley-of-sandringham-hall The website for Sandringham says the Hall, with its Estate, was built in the second half of the 18th-century by Cornish Henley, whose wife was a member of the Hoste family. He died before the House was completed and his son (presumably the above Henry Hoste Henley) eventually sold it to a neighbour, John Motteux, who in turn bequeathed it to his friend Charles Spencer Cowper.
Thank you, I had found these before but at the time there was nothing about the staff. I will have another peek.
I didnt think there was anything either, but then spotted one of the files included a list of servants.
