So this one is an interesting place to jump back in. Picked a random ancestor just to see what happens :D

    Sarah Wilson
    b. 27/8/1804 Kilmarnock
    christened: 27/8/1804

    married Hugh Borland
    5/10/1827 Kilmarnock, Ayrshire

    d. 24/4/1876 Maryborough VIC Australia
    buried: 26/4/1876 Maryborough Vic

Hugh Borland died 12/4/1870 at Schoolwell, St Stevenson, Ayrshire
buried 16/4/1870 Old Parish Church, Irvine, Ayrshire

Their daughter was Sarah Borland b. 9/2/1832 at Irvine. Ayrshire

I hoping to go back a bit further with Sarah Wilson. I have potential parents as Robert Wilson and Janet Orr.

I know it's a lot of information sorry.

    Thank you.

Have you checked this out on ScotlandsPeople and seen the original?

I have just looked at the index and it certainly says that the parents are Robert WILSON and Janet ORR

ScotlandsPeople also has a marriage between a Janet ORR and a Robert WILSON, but that did not take place until 2nd December 1815 in Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire. It may be that the couple had an "irregular marriage" and decided to make it official later.

Irregular Marriage: a couple made a declaration or public promise in front of two witnesses that they were to live a husband and wife.

It might be worth having a look at the originals on ScotlandsPeople. Buy some credits and take a peek - if you have not already done so. ;) Each record should only cost £1.50 (2.60 AUS$)

SP baptism index helpfully adds that Sarah was child no 11. A further child was born in 1808. Child 2 was born in 1790.

The Robert Wilson and Janet Orr in Lochwinnoch had children in Lochwinnoch from 1816 to 1835. I think it is likely that they are to be found in the 1841/51 censuses in Lochwinnoch, born around 1794. If that is correct they are too young to be Sarah's parents.
Both Orr and Wilson are very common names in this area, as are Robert and Janet.

Thank you @Daft Bat and @Grizel for the information. I'll see what I can do about viewing the records, being so cheap might help me to sneak it into the weekly budget.

I did try the census but was going off where Sarah was born in Ayrshire not anywhere else. Might have to expand a bit.

    Thanks again

Looks like I might have to buy the 30 credit package. Doesn't seem to be one for individual credits.

It usually costs 6 credits per view.

If you do decide to buy some credits you will be able to view 5 records.
Having looked at the baptisms on the index and also at the 1841 census I'd be very tempted to view the death record for Elizabeth Wilson ( poss sister of Sarah) in 1866 in Kilmarnock Statutory Records, Death index. Mmn indexed as Orr. Age is very slightly out but they often are.
In 1841 there is a Janet Orr in Kilmarnock with poss daughters Elizabeth and Jean.
If the death is the correct Elizabeth, it should give parents' names and with luck an occupation for the father (hopefully Robert).
I could be wrong!! but this Elizabeth only comes up once on deaths. If married it would come up twice with married and maiden names.
If it were me I'd probably check it out .

To add . There are no deaths whatsoever recorded in the Church Records (ie pre 1855), for Kilmarnock in SP. So you will not be able to find a death for Robert or Janet if it occurred before 1855 if they died in Kilmarnock.

Janet, Jean and Elizabeth are in the 1851 census and Janet is ( as Wilson, Mrs, cow feeder) in the 1846 PO directory at 34 Strand Street Kilmarnock. (Directory online at National Library of Scotland)

So a funny story I thought.

Mum has a little more information that I had which is a marriage for Robert and Janet about 1827. And she had Sarah's birthdate as 1832. She was wondering why that didn't make sense until I told her that she had mixed up Sarah Wilson's birthdate and her daughter Sarah Borland's birthdate. (see dates above). I guess it shows it is always good to have a second pair of eyes to double check things :)

But anyway I'm still working on the credits but that 1827 date that Mum had might be helpful. She also said that Sarah's husband Alexander went back to Scotland from Australia because he couldn't handle the weather.

Along with the marriage date she has next to it "of Lochwinnoch, Renfrew, Scotland". Sorry can't read her writing that well sometime.

Sorry I've just realised that the 1827 marriage date for Robert and Janet doesn't work if their daughter Sarah was born in 1804. Hmmm

It would if there had been an Irregular Marriage in place first. Just something to consider...

So if Sarah's husband is Hugh Borland, who is Alexander who went back to Scotland because of the weather?

Well spotted! Threw me at first, but I think the informant on the death cert had mixed up the names as Hugh Borland's parents were I think Alexander Borland and Elizabeth Banks.

Ah oops I think it's a typo @Archie's Mum. Hugh went back to Scotland because of the weather.

Hmmm are you suggesting that the parents I have, Robert and Janet are not correct parents???:nailbiting::)

    More research to do!!!!

You are all awesome by the way. Don't know if I can say it enough. :):)

So I had another look at Scotland people site to see if I could find different parents for Sarah Wilson going off the death certificat @Archie's Mum found using the 1804 birthdate but still only came up with Robert and Janet. Still working on credits.

As @Grizel put it. The informer on the death of Sarah was the confused one.
What is more confusing is that in Maryborough Cemetery are BORLAND: Hugh, Sarah, Hugh and Martha.
