Trying to find the names of schools (infant/primary/junior) which were near to Pawson's Road, Croydon.

I have tried looking for street/road maps of the area at the time and have come to the conclusion that I am useless at maps - unless there aren't any.

If anyone can help with either, I would be most grateful.

I would suggest Bensham Manor School in Ecclesbourne Road. Although it is now a senior school, it used to be called Ecclesbourne Primary School. It's about half a mile away. :)

Thanks Jan. The Archivist at Croydon will look for someone in the school registers for me when they open again, but I need to tell her what schools to look at. Need to keep looking to see when they open so I can e-mail her again.

Any idea at what age kids left school in those days? Someone who was born 1919 or 1921?

The 1918 Education Act raised the school leaving age from 12 to 14 with provision for part time continuation day classes for those in employment age 14 to 16.

Thanks @MollyMay - thought it was about 14 (seem to remember my dad saying he was working when he was 14). At least it gives me an idea of which boxes/files to tell the Archivist to look in
