Where is the best place to search for military records. I am looking for the period 1845-1885?
    With thanks Elizabeth:)

Have a read of this TNA Research Guide first. :)

Do you know which Regiments to search? If so, then check out the individual websites for those Regiments. Their archivists are usually very helpful. :)

Thank you Daft Bat I will have a look at this. I am looking for the 5th and 32 foot regiments but so far have found these early regiments difficult to follow. I have thought about paying an expert but don't even know where to start with that. Military records always seem a bit hit and miss with me and I am still wondering about the (army) surgeon in the family. It seems there is a bit here and a bit there and sometimes none at all.
Well it's another challenge for me.:)
