Maryatta is coming up as Mary Ann Helmkey on 1871 census age 8 appearing with Eliza Jane. Eliza Jane married John Franklin Cook. Amazing what info can be gleaned from Find a Grave.

I know this one has already been discounted but for clarification this Sophia Godfrey was 5 years old and living at Edington, she was buried in Chilton Polden on 7th March.

Thanks everyone for all the useful information.
It looks possible that John Godfrey could have gone to America first in 1853. Looking on the Castle Garden site, there is a John Godfrey the right age.
Does anyone know can you look at the original records on there in any way?
Then perhaps John and Sophia's eldest daughter Eliza now married to John Litton arrived in 1856.
Wife Sophia Godfrey then arrived with the youngest daughter Ellen in 1857.
By 1861 Sophia had died, so I presume that was in America or Canada where John was recorded as widowed on the 1861 census. John Godfrey must have returned to England by 1871 as he is on the census in Street Somerset where he dies in 1880.
Now it all looks good but to prove it!
