Stumped as to what this place name could be

His handwriting is quite good, so I incline towards the former, and this could easily lead to variants of the same place name on the same page
This si another page from the same parish etc and yest the details look like a different person has completed them, the place names at the top of the page are in the same hand as the page above.

Having looked at several pages it does appear that whoever is doing the writing is copying exactly what the householder has put as there are various forms of Birmingham, Staffordshire, Walsall, and Shareshill

Yesterday I tried to follow the Parker family back & forth & ended up in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire, 20+-miles from Polsworth, & wondered if that was where John Parker was born & also William Smith? Had to leave so unable to work it out, now I must go back to bed before I have to wake up again so will leave this hanging.

Three pieces of lateral thinking have found precisely nothing :headbang:

1. Browsing the 1871 Pelsall census returns in the hope of finding someone else with the same POB or other clues came to nothing.
2. Searches for a marriage between a John Parker & Emma in Staffordshire/Warwickshire/Worcestershire 1860-1870 found 5.
3. Searches to find Mary/Mary Ann's birth registration to determine which marriage found no hits for any of the 5 possibles.

I did exactly the same as you Bonzo Dog, and came up with nothing either :(

Thought I would get somewhere by looking for a marriage between a John Parker and Emma Smith (as it is she and William Smith that have the same place of birth), but drew a blank on that too :(:(

There is a James Parker marriage in Derby, Derbyshire in 1867, same page is an Emma Smith. Perfect for a three year old Mary Ann in 1871.
I believe Derbyshire is next to Staffordshire..
