In looking for a death of a chap at Spratton in Northamptonshire, I found that he had committed suicide at the age of 36.

But I have not seen it recorded like this before...

If anyone could make sense of the last column, I would be grateful:

    John ???????, Curate, ?????????? ???????? of Lunacy

    John Bromwich/k
John Thos? Cobb, Coroners ? Of Lunacy. I don’t think that is ‘curate’.

Just had a look at other entries on the page and yes, it is John Thos. Cobb :) but it does say "Curate".... eg:

    I like the "Coronor's"

Perhaps it is Curate if that's his burial but why the bit about lunacy?
Could that be 'Coroners remark of lunacy'?

I suppose that it is the way it was recorded before they started putting "whilst not of sound mind" on certificates... :(

Agree Coroner's but not sure about next word. At first I saw it as commencement of lunacy, but think I was wrong there now.

I cannot think of another word other than remark - but I am not convinced it is.

I don't know if you have seen this from the Northampton Mercury of the 28th January 1826, in a section reporting recent Coroner's inquests -
Accidental Death - And on the same day [21st January] at Spratton, on view of the body of Mr John Bromwich, who kept the King's Head Public House there. The deceased during the last three months had been affected with a violent fever, and during that time (but not before) had made repeated attempts to destroy himself. On the evening of the 20th inst, he left his house, and a general search being shortly afterwards made for him, he was found hanging, about a mile from the house, in a barn called Clark's barn, quite dead - Verdict - Lunacy.

That, Arthur, would make more sense. I think Arthur has it.
