Susan was born in Symondsbury late in 1853, being bapt 31 Dec.
According to the 1911 census, she had 12 children, 10 still living, 2 died. So far I only have 10 children, so I assume the two that died never made it to the census :(

James, George, Mary Ann, Bessie, Harriet, Robert & Frederick with her first husband Frederick Powell HAYBALL

William, born between husbands, so technically a Hayball

Thomas & Cecil with her second husband George FOLLETT

James (in full James John Powell Hayball) is no problem, travelled the world in the Navy, got married, had kids, died

When it comes to George I have, however, wasted a few days doing the same searches endlessly and getting nowhere. I took a break and did some work on the sisters, but felt guilty and have come back to George, did everything I could think of and still he is completely gone after 1891, despite evidence from his mother's 1911 census suggesting he is still alive :confused:

Here's the facts I have: born in Bridport, reg Apr-Jun 1877, bapt 15 May; 1881 in Symondsbury; 1891 in Allington.

Before I give up on George again, I thought I would hand over to you, see if you can find him :D

Could he be the George Follett on the 1911 married to Agnes Staples (1907) farm labourer b1880 Bridport - RG14 PN12464 SN74?

I cannot find him as George Hayball:(

Seems possible MM, at least I can't disprove it. Though fear I am not yet convinced. Might have to think about getting the marriage cert.

I didn't consider that he might use his stepfather's name - he was 10 or 11 when his father died, so it is not as if he didn't know him; and he wasn't living with his mother and stepfather in 1901.

In fact, where was he?

I can only find one George Hayball b. Dorset between 1869-1878, your George b. 1877 Bridport.
1911 census has a George Hayball - age a bit out
    Age in 1911: 38
    Estimated birth year: abt 1873
    Birth Place: Tiverton, Devon
nephew of Elizabeth Pook-70 [poss. nee Lee]
    RG14; Piece: 13238

Trouble is, he is also with Pook family 1901 + 1891.
Bah just found his birth in Tiverton also.

:( thanks for trying, Tiverton and Chard seem to be the main places for Hayballs (unless they be born in Bridport)

Well that rules out my thoughts whilst doing clothes line duty! Strange what goes through your head when dealing with pegs and Reg Grundy's.

I looked on Ancestry for the marriage as they have quite a few Dorset parish registers, but couldn't find it.

However, the Army Service records for this George are on FMP. His father was Thomas and his mother Alice. He married Agnes Staples on 11.08.1907. (she died 26.04.1917). So don't think he is your George :(

I guess it was nonconformist or a Register office wedding. I couldn't find it either :(

No, definitely not my George :(, but thank you very much for finding the info needed to rule him out :)

Maybe he emigrated? I tried to investigate this but got nowhere. I did find his brother William was in Canada for WW1 and USA for WW2

Just wondering if he joined the Royal Navy? I think two of his brothers did, and was wondering if he had too as there is a record of a George Hayball at the National Archives - listed in the same set of records for the two brothers on Ancestry, but no image - the link takes you to the National Archives.

I think that is the Nottingham born George, although the dob seems to be a year out, reg Mar 1881 :(

(not the same one as AM found, reg Mar 1885, who was a soldier)
