The Cornish emigrated everywhere right? And we all have Cornish ancestors!

I have been researching the family of my daughter's boyfriend; I knew I was in trouble when I realised that one arm had come from St Just in Penwith, Cornwall. Having done a few generations I decided to check my husband's tree for some of the names: the big lad's grandmother's ancestors came from Kelynack near St Just; and of course I have other St Just people in the tree after researching the gravestone photos we took in 2014. Sure enough I found matching people: it turns out that boyfriend and husband share 6th great grandparents.

Now previously I had discovered that my husband and my child-hood girlfriend, my matron of honour at our wedding, and my husband were related. James Trahair and Thomasin Tonkin are his 4th great grandparents and my friend's 5th great grandparents.

I have found other connections too and I begin to believe that the Cornish, and particularly those from the parish of St Just in Penwith emigrated everywhere and therefore we must all have Cornish ancestors and be related to everyone else!! Right?

Look for the six toes :D We are the same around these parts, you don't need to go back many generations to find a connection. (by the way, I only have 5 toes....... on each of my four hands :D :D )

I have. Way back to 1630 or so. Before that, Devon.
As for the six toes. I can only count to 10.

One of the main branches of my wife's male line has been traced back to ca 1600 in Gwythian and thereabouts before ending up in Coventry around 1835 and includes the family names of Cock, Snell and Bleuett. Her male ancestors are almost exclusively tailors.

My Gt Gt Grandma moved from Lands End to London when she married but returned in old age and is buried here. I didn't know until after we moved to Cornwall! I even have a cousin a few times removed in the local cemetery! Peregrine's Trahairs are on his father's side!

My 'deposited by alien's:ghost:' Daniel Dunn and wife Elizabeth (in Northfleet, Kent 1799 - 1804, not found before or afterwards) - just might herald from Cornwall, there are plenty of baptisms for Daniel in the right time frame there, it is how to prove it:rolleyes:

Recently found hordes of Cornish rellies - mostly Williamses from St Clement, Truro, but some Tamblyns and a couple of Pengellys amongst others. The hunt started after I found the will John Williams - I had thought 'such a widespread name, I'll never trace this family further' but he named in the will, as well as his children that I knew about, his brother Stephen Tamblyn Williams. What a massive hint! Cornwall OPC had so much info for me, which I was able to confirm via censuses (my lot were very keen on having each others' kids to stay!)
I believe that several of my Cornish relatives emigrated to America and were involved in the copper industry. I'm working on that, but I have definitely found records of a few who went out there.
The Cornish certainly do get around!

I've no shortage of Cornish ancestors on my mother's side, but I was surprised to find how many Cornish family lines there were on dad's side as I always thought that they would have been Scots more than anything else.
