    Sadly on Monday I lost my Great Aunt at the grand old age of 100 years and six months:(. She was a tinker, always a twinkle of mischief in her eyes and a good whisky buddy (and bad influence on my hubby - not that Alan protested much;)). She still had her fighting spirit to the end repeating her earlier choice words at the notion of entering a care home:D.

    We are travelling to Edinburgh for the funeral next Friday and although it is a sad time, I am looking forward to catching up with family but also my mums cousin has unearthed family photo albums which he is looking forward to showing us. He has also discovered his fathers war record which I am excited to read (and hopefully photograph).

    So why The Duchess, well the family name is York and my nan was known as The Duchess - a moniker we transferred to my Great Aunt and she was indeed a grand duchess to me.

    I think she was waiting to see our elephant photos as she loved them - I text some across to my cousin so at least she got to see those():-)

    A grand age and a sad loss. Don't be surprised to see a lot of knitters in Edinburgh. It will be the weekend of the Edinburgh Yarn Festival and they turn up from far and wide! I shan't be there, except in spirit!

    Alan has the whiskey ready to toast her on the day (think he might sample it beforehand.....for quality control purposes;):D)

    Sounds like the "Duchess" was a fascinating, lovely lady and so glad she lived to that age. Treasure her memory and also her books and mementos. Hugs....

    The "Duchess" will be delighted you are all there to see her off... Perhaps she will share her whiskey with you all... a very senior member of hubby's family did that. She loved a drink so she left some money with the Legion where her wake was held so everyone who came could have one last drink from her. {-(^^)-}
