I was searching through Somerset Parish records, in particular Batcombe. Going through the burial records I was very pleased to see that on nearly every recording the curator or someone had written under the deceased name " wife of ***" or "husband of ***" or" daughter or son of *** and*** " or" illegitimate daughter or son of ***" and if the former spouse was also deceased and buried there, the Parish entry # of that entry.. but of course, NOT MINE :( . Therefore still no proof of who I was looking for!

I found a baptism the other day with very helpful info in it. It was from baptisms in Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, in 1832

    Name:
    Name's of father and mother:
Former name of mother - whether Spinster or widow:
    Fathers occupation:
    Residence:

Residence did give their actual place as well as Llanidloes but welsh names are hard enough to read even when they are spelled correctly.

Once the new style forms for baptisms came in later in the 1830's the mother's former name and status fell by the wayside.
