I am looking for a Baptismal/ Birth record for Thomas Jackson - born Sutton Coldfield. Warwickshire. About 1832. Parents George Jackson & Mary Jones. I have lots of other details on him but nothing to prove his birth. I have checked as many records as I can find and a few years either side of 1832 - but alas no luck so far :headbang::)

Sorry I can only find a Thomas among 3 other Jackson children being Baptised in Birmingham to JAMES & Mary.
Is Thomas the on later found in Staffs?
Seems the Father died in 1840s & I don't see them in 1851.

I'm nearly due to get out of bed but as I am not there I can't do that. augers not good for the day:rolleyes:

Family Search genealogies has the following:
    Sarah 1820**
    George 1821
    William 1822
    John 1824
    George 1826 **
    Samuel 1827
    Mary Ann 1829
    Thomas 1832**
    Maria 1834
    Phebe 1836
    Joseph 1838
Those with ** baptisms aren't showing anywhere and an extra Mary Ann 1830 has appeared on FS. All baptised father George mother Mary, Sutton Coldfield.
Mother on FS Genealogies is Mary Jones born 1799.

Thank you for looking. I can't find anything for Him either. I thought maybe they had an older daughter and she may have had a son & George & Mary took him on. However the oldest daughter would have only been 12 so maybe not. They did move to Staffordshire. Well Thomas did and married Mary Winnington.

Could Thomas have been born to a younger sibling of George who was unable to care for him, so leaving him available for George & Mary to raise?

Thanks for your reply. Yes I had not thought of that. He had 4 sisters Elizabeth 1790, Mary 1794, Phoebe 1800, Maria 1805, all born Sutton Coldfield. :headbang::)

    Hi gillyflower
Looking at FS , Warwickshire parish registers have a number of baptisms where only the first name seems to be given eg Ann and there are quite a few name of Thomas.
One of these was born 11 aug 1832, bp
9 Sep 1832, father's residence Reddicap Lane. No surname noted. It struck me that your Jackson family were at Redicap Heath in 1841.

Sadly I think we can eliminate him.
There were 2 Thomas with no surname baptisms on 9 sep 1832, one res Reddicap Lane, one res Blabbs, on the Warwickshire PRs.
On the Engand Births and Christenings on the same date were baptisms of Thomas Nash and Thomas Woodward, no residences given. However in 1841 Thomas Nash was at Windley and Thomas Woodward was at - you've guessed it - Reddicap Lane. So I think the nameless Thomas was probably Thomas Woodward. Sorry.:(
    All info from FamilySearch.

This is really a separate issue - but looking again on FS at the nameless Thomas bp 9 sep1832, I see that there is an actual image available. Clicking on this I see it is only available to me online if I sign in to my family search account ( which I don't have).
There is also a notice at the top of the page saying that soon searching and viewing historical records will require a free account.
As one who rarely leaps into anything, and before I sign up - has anyone any experience of FS free accounts?

Yes. I've had mine for ages. When you first sign up, it tries to get you to start a tree with them, but you can decline and go about with your searching and viewing.

Yes I too now have a free account. It took me ages to get one though. No luck so far searched records from 1830-1836 found a couple of siblings but that is all so far :headbang::(

I cannot quite bring myself to complete the process! Just can't see why they need all those personal details....

Back when I signed up one only needed to give a username, pwd and email address. I don't think you have to provide factual answers to the rest. I see they have my dob as 1/1/70! Don't I wish. ;)
